Pineapple

Pineapple contains considerable amounts of bioactive compounds, dietary fibber, minerals, and nutrients. In addition, pineapple has been proven to have various health benefits including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant activity.  Daily pineapple consumption reduced weight gain, serum lipid profiles, atherogenic coefficient, cardiac risk ratio, and liver enzyme activity, without causing renal dysfunction. Pineapple possesses antioxidant and lipid-lowering properties, therefore, daily consumption can reduce hypercholesterolemia-induced cardiac lipid peroxidation and pro-inflammation.

Bromelain, a mixture of proteolytic enzymes typically derived from pineapple stem, decreases production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and leukocyte homing to sites of inflammation. Bromelain present in pineapple influences blood coagulation. It reduces the formation of blood clots, dissolves existing blood clots because of its fibrinolytic properties. The bromelain in pineapple juice may also thin mucus that causes congestion in the sinuses or chest. Together with its anti-inflammatory properties, pineapple juice may relieve symptoms of the common cold and allergies.

Bromelain also has antibacterial properties that can protect our gut from diarrheal-causing bacteria like E.coli and reduce gut inflammation. It prevent auto-immune diseases.
